Earnest Hemingway wrote that "Wine is the most civilized thing in the world", well I am not sure that I agree with him on that completely but I would certainly concede that it has played a very important role in civilizations that predate that of Ancient Rome. The exact time for the origins of wine making are unknown. Archeological proof of wine making dates back to about 5400-5000 BC in Ancient Iran. There has been less reliable evidence that wine production goes back to as early as 12,000 years ago in Ancient Greece. No matter its true date of origin, it can not be argued that wine production has not influenced civilization. I am a wine lover. I hope that I will find others here that share that interest and wish to share stories and insights about their favorite wines.
Thanks for starting this forum! I have been a wine fanatic since senior year in college when I had the incredible fortune of satisfying my non-science concentration lab course requirement with "The Art & Science of Winemaking." I've been hooked ever since.
I enjoy white wines primarily. My uneducated palate started with the Reislings, and eventually moved to the Gewurztraminers, Chardonnays, Sauvingion Blancs and Pinot Noirs.
For reds, I'm in absolute love with the Auxey-Duresse Burgundys.
Glad you like the topic. Have you ever tried Amorone? A lovely wine from Veneto Italy that uses the Corvina grape varietal. One of the smoothest wines you could ever drink. You should visit my website as well. www.drivebycritic.com lots of wine suggestions there.
Yes there are several Amorone available in Total Wine. I suggest the Antica Corte Amorone. Easily found in the Italian section near the tasting bar. I hope you like it.
