Last Saturday at the United House of Prayer in Crestdale, NC, two renowned women were commemorated with a gathering and tribute by the neighborhood and friends to celebrate the 100 years milestone of their lives. These legendary women were Mrs. Boyd and Mrs. Stewart. We celebrated with a fish fry, tributary speeches, singing, prayer, and sharing of history of the area. Crestdale, which was previously named Tank Town after the steam trains that would fill up on water in the area.

We also heard of the Crestdale Community Project which is a celebration and coalition of wide efforts to preserve the history and culture of the area. Matthews Community Center came out and offered support by providing tents and equipment. The Light Factory staff came out as well with support and took photographs. Filmed interviews of some of the local residents were conducted by Dorne Pentes. Interviews will also be conducted on the Family Fun Field Day. Community members were enthusiastic about the events to come. It was a great Saturday afternoon of celebration and we can all mark our calendars for the Family Fun Field Day on July 11th, when we will celebrate the history of the neighborhood and neighboring communities in the area.
