I believe way too much emphasis is placed on the "bad economy".
Sure things are down, but can worry change anything? Can telling everyone we meet, how bad the economy is and whether or not we are going to make it, change it one degree? The time we spend wringing our hands, and saying "woe is me", is wasted time and it produces a defeatist attitude.
Rid yourself of that.
Wake up with a smile on your face, and determination in your heart that nothing - absolutely NOTHING is going to hold you back. Bad economy or not, refuse to dwell on it. Instead, dwell on those things that produces results.
Have a little extra time? Don't plop down on the couch in front of the evening news and take in all the doom-and-gloom, but instead take the opportunity to learn more about your profession. Sign up for some classes, go to Lynda.com and sign-up for some online training on software you don't have a clue how to operate. Attend some seminars, seek out networking opportunities by scheduling a lunch date with old co-workers, friends you haven't seen in ages. Spend more time on the social networking blog, making valuable contacts and establishing friendships.
Take the opportunity to get away - even if it is for a day at the local park - to reflect briefly on the past - and encourage yourself for the future. Make plans to succeed and not fail. Fear never produces anything but more fear, and it has been proven to cause depression and poor health.
STAND UP! Shake yourself off and get out of that fog of dumb. God created you in the image of Himself with the ability to dream and imagine. Return to your first love and what has excited and motivated you in the past - and reclaim by force, what this world's economy has taken from you.
