Update- 100 years Young

Last Saturday at the United House of Prayer in Crestdale, NC, two renowned women were commemorated with a gathering and tribute by the neighborhood and friends to celebrate the 100 years milestone of their lives. These legendary women were Mrs. Boyd and Mrs. Stewart. We celebrated with a fish fry, tributary speeches, singing, prayer, and sharing of history of the area. The Crestdale neighborhood is one of the oldest African-American communities in the United States of America, which was established soon after the Civil War. Today there is also a nearby Montagnard community, and the Crestdale Crossings neighborhood. Crestdale Community Project

Through a grant from Crossroads Charlotte, the Arts and Science Council is partnering with The Light Factory Museum of Contemporary Photography and Film, fiber artist, Sunya Folayan and the Matthews Community Center to do an art project that will celebrate the history of Crestdale community and its people through the creation of art.
