At last night's regularly scheduled town council meeting, a public hearing was held to discuss the sale of the vacant land located at 111 Matthews Station Street to the developers of Pure Taqueria. No one was in attendance to speak for or against the sale of the land.

This is not uncommon. We often see issues heat up then at the time of the public hearing no one attends to voice their opinion either way. Sometimes, as was the case last night, it's surprising when that happens.

To my Matthews business owner friends -- be aware that there is a telephone scam going around regarding putting your business's name on a refrigerator magnet. Universal Ad.com. Lots of complaints with the BBB and cease and desist orders.

This guy had no idea who he was calling when he introduced himself as someone who is working with the "City of Matthew" (yes, no "s"). Uh, yeah, right.

Last night was another event in the Matthews Night Out program. You may recall that I blogged about it after its premiere. Once again, it was a well-attended and fun event. This is the second time Jon Simon has appeared at the Community Center. If you weren't there, the premise of his show is that he takes 20 volunteers, whittles them down to the ones who are really under hypnosis, and "suggests" behavior that makes the audience laugh out loud.

We want more!!! Just in from opening night of the Matthews Summer Concert & Movie Series at the newly remodeled Stumptown Park (absolutely beautiful). Tonight's band was the GT All-Stars from Atlanta, GA, and they were fantastic! This was one band (and one crowd) that didn't let a little rain get them down.
