The Armed Forces Museum & Archives of the Carolinas, Ltd. was established as a Non-Profit Corporation in the State of North Carolina on April 21, 2008 with the registered office of the corporation in Matthews, North Carolina.

The American Legion Post 235 in Matthews spearheaded the effort to establish the museum and archives. Veterans' Organizations from Mecklenburg, Union, Carbarrus, and Stanly Counties North Carolina and York County South Carolina have supported and continue to support the efforts of Post 235.

The purpose of the museum and archives is to ensure that the history of the Armed Forces of the United States is preserved for future generations; to support and encourage the development and eductation of students; to inspire patriotism and good citizenship; to provide a place where veterans' records, documents, audio- and video-taped oral histories, artifiacts and memorabilia may be preserved and displayed to the public; and, to recognize the contributions of those who have served in time of war, those who served in other periods, and those who supported them on the home front.

The veterans' group has asked the Town of Matthews to provide a building to house the museum and a decision is pending review and recommendation of a town advisory board.

Hey guys, keep me posted when the next meetings are held. Somehow, I fell out of the loop on it. Adam Brooks

This sounds like a wonderful and important opportunity to pass on the heritage of those who have made it possible for us to have the unique freedoms that we have here in the United States. I fear this is something that is no longer passed on to our children as strongly as it should be. I fully support this endeavor.
